I thought it would be a clicker game with a cute and relaxing atmosphere, but in fact it was not such a cute and relaxing game. In fact, it is not such a cute and relaxing game at all. I was also playing a very efficiency-oriented game in which I shipped a dog with a very small amount of energy without feeding it.
This game is hoe we wish for cute dogs. How we "created" pugs and how we make the dogs breed.
A cruel game indeed. I find it very sad.
Why do dogs suffer? Why is their only payment is suffering?
I was SO heartbroken to see this game and read the comments about the theory of having dogs that have myriad diseases, Heart failures and how they drool and shaking. We are terrible creatures, we are cruel terrible masters of our own dogs.
I don't want to jinx or sound like a beacon of false hope, but I do have hope for a fair amount of dogs in some countries/counties/states/etc. It seems like awareness and concern for these issues is only growing more and more. Things may even be implemented legally for animal humane rights.
It's the breeders who focus specifically on "show quality" dogs rather than simply pedigree that care the most about these deformities (like those who breed german shepherds for their sloped backs and is literally in some competitions for the "best sloped back".)
I knew what the general concept would be when I launched this (and, well, great message! I'm just not sure what to say on this topic that hasn't been said already), but I was pleasantly surprised to see the integration of the theme with game design/UI features.
(slight spoilers below for anyone who happens to scroll by before finishing)
Like, the more messed up the dogs get, other than the obvious effects, it also takes them longer to move around/breed. The UI changes were also fairly unexpected.
(spoilers end)
One issue I have to address is that dogs sometimes ignore the food completely (or at least it doesn't seem to be affecting them), even at the start of the game. Maybe I've been just using this feature wrong, but occasionally it just feels like an error.
Overall, a really well-made game! It's kinda hard to be like "wow great awesome" given the subject matter, but it's thought-provoking and excels at being unsettling while not slipping into total body horror. I'd say you nailed your university assignment, hope your professors agreed!
I haven't been able to play this game since I got a new laptop and it doesn't run the game, but I just wanna say how much i love it! A Terrifyingcute game about raising puppies!

good game, but seriously, fix the damn food thing!
you can place tons of food everywhere and the most valuable dog is still the one that refuses to eat and rather starves, making him unusable.
literally cant create anything beyonfd level 6 cause those f ckers rather starve to death than eat the food shoved in their face! >:-(
I think that's actually part of the game, with the whole deterioration thing
do not recommend for younger viewers includes terrifing music, death, and a dog made out of bones
